Abstract
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to understand the degree of family function, health behaviors and fatigue in middle-aged and elderly women and to compare health behaviors and fatigue according to family function.

Method: The data were collected from 367 middle-aged and elderly women in the community from March to June 2014. Except for 19 insufficient responses, 348 were used for final analysis. The collected data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, and one-way ANOVA with the IBM SPSS Statistics 21.0 program.

Results: There was no significant difference in health behaviors such as exercise, drinking, smoking, and caffeine consumption according to family function. However there was significant difference in physical fatigue (F= 7.54, p=.001), mental fatigue (F=4.74, p=.009) and total fatigue (F=7.14, p=.001) according to family function. The degree of physical and mental fatigue was low in the case of good family function.

Conclusion: The findings of this study provide useful information for understanding hemodialysis patients. These results suggest that the primary care givers and healthcare professionals should make an effort to improve social support and hope.
